Nekoosa High School offers a variety of extra-curricular activities that allow for student participation beyond the normal school day. These activities allow students additional opportunities to develop their talents beyond the classroom.

We encourage all of our students to become involved in the wide range of activities that Nekoosa has to offer. Studies have indicated that students involved in extra-curricular activities tend to have higher grades, better attendance rates, and higher self-esteem than students who do not participate in extracurricular activities.  The choice is clearly up to you! Become involved and your high school experiences will be even more exciting, worthwhile and positive.

“A” Team

Academic awards are issued to students who earn “A’s” in all classes for their semester grades. The first semester that a student receives straight “A’s”, and is then known as a member of the “A Team”, he or she will receive an Academic Achievement Certificate. Each semester the student receives straight “A’s” he/she will receive a certificate.

After being a member of the “A Team” for three semesters, a student is awarded an “A Team” letter.  This is a white “N” exactly like those awarded in the athletic area, with the “A Team” recognition printed on it. Membership in this select group can only be attained through high achievement in the academic area. It cannot be given to anyone; it has to be earned.

FBLA

Future Business Leaders of America is a group for students that are interested in the Wonderful World of Business. This club gives students a chance to compete in local and national competitions in different areas such as Marketing, Business Management, and Sports Entertainment. You can earn awards and a trip to Nationals depending on your success with the competitions.  Be sure to follow us on social media for our most up-to-date results and activities

Yearbook

NHS Students work together on taking photos, writing articles/short blurbs, layout, and all things Yearbook throughout the school year.

Math League

Central Wisconsin Mathematics League gives all students a chance to compete against students throughout Central Wisconsin. Some of the best students and schools in the state participate in this league, and Nekoosa is proud to be a member. Competition is held at the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point at three meets each school year. Twelve students from each school participate in groups of four in three categories. The categories are Geometry, Algebra, and Advanced Math. The students take approximately an hour-long test covering almost everything in their category. The students and the school are then scored and are compared to others in and out of their respective school divisions.

Awards and prizes, of which Nekoosa has its share, are rewarded to outstanding members of the League. Sentry Insurance of Stevens Point and Employer’s Insurance of Wausau provide financial support for CWML.

South Central Conference Musings
Click Here for the 2022 Musings  (Volume 23)

This website is dedicated to South Central Conference All-Conference Writers and Artists. Each year submissions for art, poetry, and short stories are submitted for entry into the literary magazine. Chosen pieces from each of the participating schools (Adams-Friendship, Mauston, Nekoosa, Westfield, Wisconsin Dells) are then published in the literary magazine.

National Honor Society

The Nekoosa High School Chapter of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools is called the Vellum Chapter. The object of the Society is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership and cultural values, and to encourage the development of character in the student. Membership in the Vellum Chapter is based upon scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Juniors and Seniors eligible to the Chapter must achieve a 3.75 grade point average at the end of the 4th and 6th semester, respectively.

Student Council

NHS Student Council is a group of dedicated and passionate students that work to maintain a positive school environment, serve as liaisons between students and school administration, and plan various school-wide events such as homecoming and spirit weeks.  Any student attending NHS can be elected to be part of Student Council.  If you wish to get even more involved, you can run for an executive position; positions include President, Vice President, Secretary/Treasurer, Public Relations, Social Media Officer, and one Representative from each grade level.  These elections are conducted in the spring for the following year, and all Student Council members are eligible to run/vote.  For more information and to join Student Council, contact Mrs. Voie (olivia_voie@nekoosa.k12.wi.us) or Mr. Burch (jason_burch@nekoosa.k12.wi.us)  Be sure to follow us on Facebook for the latest updates!

Link Crew

Link crew is a club for Juniors or Seniors who are interested in helping Freshman transition to Nekoosa High School. You will help lead Freshman only day and Freshman orientation at the beginning of the school year as well as sponsor freshman events throughout first semester. This is a great way to obtain leadership skills as well as create a more inclusive environment at NHS. This is a popular club so there is an application process that takes place in the spring every year.
