Together with the wonderfully diverse people who call Nekoosa home, the District's highly dedicated staff work hard to support and help each child realize his/her full potential. Our educational system is truly aligned to support and build on the successes of each school year.
To meet the varied needs of today's learner, on top of the comprehensive school offerings, the District has diversified its school choice offerings to include a STEM charter school, a virtual school, and an alternative high school option.
Three Key Focus Areas have positioned the District to provide an educational experience that truly prepares students for their dreams beyond high school.
High Leverage Instructional Strategies:
Academic Performance and Application
When many of us went to school, schools and teachers often relied on strategies using grade level textbooks, large group activities, and whole class lecture. The District is learning new approaches to involve all students in the learning process so they can leave high school ready to succeed in a global community.
Social and Emotional Learning:
Self-directed, Collaborative and Responsible Citizens
Successful individual student behavior is linked to school climate. Our District is working to develop strategies and services that are proactive, model and teach expected behaviors, hold students accountable for behaviors that impede learning for themselves and others, and improve support or students with emotional and behavior disabilities.
Equity:
Barriers are removed so that all students are expected to and do achieve at high levels, both academically and socio-emotionally.
When some of us were in school, students with special needs were often pulled out and given educational services in a separate room or separate school away from grade level peers. Today, our regular education and special education teaching staff are working to provide teaching and learning supports for all students in the general education classroom.
