Community Projects & Events
The School District of Nekoosa and three local churches are collaborating to create a large community garden. Each year, garden beds of different varieties are available to the community and school district.
The garden is located on the corner of Cedar Street and Market Street. There are approximately fifteen 4 x 8 beds and eight 10 x 20 beds with room for expansion as needed.
We have a sand point well and Domtar has provided us with mill felt to use as a walking path through the garden, or to reduce weeds in garden beds. The city will work with the gardeners to provide mulch and soil. Shutters Greenhouse has donated plants and seeds to get our garden started this year. Please contact Paul Liebherr for more information.

Did you know that there is a School District of Nekoosa School forest on Alpine Drive in the Town of Rome?
The beautiful forest includes 40 acres of plush forest land. The Town of Rome is working with our district to move the old Chester School House onto this land.
We are in hopes of restoring this building for future usage for our student’s and community members. There is a small committee working to make decisions about what to include ex: walking paths/signage/theater/parking lot etc. We meet monthly and would like to include you on our school forest steering committee.
If you are interested in becoming part of the planning process and completion of all or parts of our school forest please contact Paul Liebherr.
