The Chester Outdoor Learning Center is the result of a cooperative effort between the School District of Nekoosa and the Town of Rome.
School district representatives, students, teachers, UWSP LEAF Coordinators, DNR Representatives, town officials and staff have been working since March 2015 to restore the school forest on Alpine Drive.
Plans for the 40 acre parcel include a shelter building, extensive trail system, flora and fauna markers, and an outdoor "theatre" for naturalist programs and entertainment. It contains the Nekoosa Environmental Learning Loop (N.E.L.L.), a community and school trail for learning, hiking, birding and exploring nature.
