The Nekoosa Academy
A Program of Nekoosa High School

The Nekoosa Academy is a program of the Nekoosa High School which affords students an alternate route to earning a high school diploma. The primary teacher is Ann Lepak, assisted by Mr. Bob Ness. The Nekoosa Academy can enroll up to twelve students at a time in each of the two daily sessions. The program’s hours are from 7:15 am until 3:45 pm.

This program allows students to receive all work at the beginning of each semester. The students work at their own pace knowing that half of their school work must be completed at the end of the quarter and fully completed at the end of the semester.

Some of the classes are offered through an internet program called ODYSSEYWARE. ODYSSEYWARE has lessons, quizzes, and tests for each subject. This is an alternative way for students to learn besides the traditional textbooks, which are also used.

Service learning is required for an additional credit at the Nekoosa Academy. Along with in class work, students have to be working outside of school. Whether it is a job or community service, students are expected to work at least 15 hours a week to obtain the full credit for the school year. Academy students are always looking for places to volunteer. If you or anyone you know needs help around their house with small jobs, raking or shoveling, please give us a call. Our students would be more than happy to come and help.

Nekoosa Academy also runs a program called “Backpack for Kids.” We send a backpack home filled with healthy foods each weekend for families that are in need. We want to make sure students are able to eat when they aren’t at school. Donation for “Backpack for Kids” can be made to the Nekoosa School District.

All of the students at the Nekoosa Academy are taking advantage of their second chance to graduate. Here is what some students have to say about the program:

“I prefer to work at my own pace and I am not competing with anybody else.”
“If it wasn’t for this program, there is no way I’d be starting college in the fall.”
“I am able to get the one on one help I need to be able to complete and understand my school work.”
