Welcome to the Special Education webpage! This site was developed to provide parents, students, and community members information regarding the services and resources offered by our dedicated staff for children with disabilities. It is the Mission of the school district to ‘Empower ALL students to succeed in a global community (socially, emotionally and academically).’ In order to fulfill this mission, it is essential that our district staff collaborate to meet the unique needs of all of our learners.
At Nekoosa, we strive to create an equitable environment of mutual respect, freedom to develop individual potential and interests, and the ability to express ideas, feelings, and imagination. Nekoosa offers a continuum of services for children with disabilities ages 3 through 21 years old. Least restrictive environment (LRE) is determined on an individual basis, with the general ed classroom always being the starting place. Removal from the general education classroom must be justified for each student with special education needs. Inclusive education involves all significant partners working collaboratively for the benefit of all children.
